Technical Assistance Services
The Region VII Technical Assistance Center - After School Programs provides quality technical assistance to all ASES and 21st CCLC programs in Region VII. Our goal is to assist you in providing quality services to the children, families and communities that you serve.
Needs Assessment
Region VII surveys programs annually to receive input regarding training topics and technical assistance needs through a Needs Assessment survey. We appreciate your input to assist us in supporting your needs through quality staff development opportunities, as well as on-site technical assistance.
What Your Regional Lead Offers
The following services are available at NO CHARGE unless otherwise indicated:
- Attendance Improvement
- Monthly newsletter, Region VII News.
- Program Plan Development
- Categorical Program Monitoring (CPM)
- Conferences and workshops throughout the region (minimal charges apply)
- Specialty publications (charges may apply)
- Current links to information on funding opportunities, legislation, and local training opportunities, offered via Region VII E-News, an active list serve.
- Customized training and/or technical consultation in the following program areas:
- Behavior management and conflict resolution
- Child/Youth development
- Curriculum development for after school programs including disguised learning strategies and strategies which integrate the State Standards and core school curriculum
- Strategies for identifying promising practices in after school programs
- Sustainability strategies including, but not limited to: building and strengthening collaborations, partnering with critical stake holders, identifying funding sources and program marketing
- Evaluation including need measurement, record keeping strategies and methods for using data for continual improvement in program improvement, management and marketing.

- Facilitate visits to our Region-wide sites and anything else pertaining to After School Programs that you need to provide exemplary services to kids!
Site Visits
The primary purpose of a site visit is to observe the development and implementation of your after school program and provide you the opportunity to reflect and discuss your work, review your practices and problem-solve collaboratively while working to move toward the achievement of your program's vision.
The following activities are expected to take place during our site visit:
- Introductory meeting with your program/site director and/or staff
- Discussion of schedule of activities and logistics for the day
- Discussion of programmatic components and set-up
- Review of site director's record-keeping and facility use
- Attendance, snack, materials and storage
- Materials (Are they grade-level appropriate?)
- System of staff support and communications
- Observation of a curriculum delivery (age-appropriate activities)
- Observation of classroom management
- Observation of engaging academic-enrichment activities
- Opportunity to meet students while engaged in after school activities
- Opportunity to visit with site principal or assigned site administrator
- Closing meeting to provide feedback, ask and answer questions, and discuss any areas that may require additional follow-up
Site Visit Form
As part of the site visit, Region VII staff members will need to complete a site visit form to document findings from the site observation. This information is used to assist you in achieving your program vision and goals. This information is also used as a guide to determine promising practices, areas of improvement, and how to proceed with additional technical assistance or staff development needs.
