The Porterville Chamber of Commerce actively supports career preparation for youth not only through the Business Education Committee, but also in other capacities including annual recognition of Male and Female Youth of the Year, collaboration between the Iris Festival and Margaret Slattery Literacy Fair, employment of youth in their office in paid and volunteer positions, and active support of youth employment to the Chamber membership. Donnette Silva-Carter and her staff, Candy King and Maggie Kaylar, are excellent ambassadors for youth career preparation by example, personal commitment, and community outreach.
