22nd Annual
Friday Night Live Lip Synch Competition

Finals: April 8, 2011

Dozens of middle school teams compete annually in the Friday Night Live Lip Synch Competition. Students vie for first, second, and third place awards in three different categories: dance, novelty, and lip synch. Friday Night Live creates opportunities for school-age youth to be involved in high energy, life affirming activities promoting abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gang participation, and violence. Participation in this activity encourages the productive use of after-school time, develops students' talents and self-confidence, and recognizes their achievements.

11th Annual
Tulare County Anti-Tobacco Challenge Bowl

March 2, 2011

The Anti-Tobacco Challenge Bowl is an annual event co-hosted by the Tulare County Office of Education, American Cancer Society, and Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency Tobacco Control Project. Teams of sixth graders from large and small Tulare County school districts participate in a game show style format of quick recall and response, answering questions about everything from the tobacco industry to the health effects of smoking. The event is designed to ingrain in students valuable information about the dangers of tobacco - before they enter middle school and are presented with the temptation to smoke.
