Standards Assessment AccountabilityThese publications have been developed by the Tulare County Office of Education for California teachers, administrators and parents engaged in the process of developing standards-driven curriculum, assessment, and accountability systems. They are designed to be used by individuals, teams or schoolwide communities to facilitate the process of curriculum alignment. Workshops are also available and can be customized according to local experience and processes. Alignment Matrix and Guide These matrices guide staff through the alignment process by examining curriculum in these critical areas: curriculum emphasis, student performance, materials, and improvement goals. Teachers list all courses and examine how their course relates to helping students achieve standards in terms of: primary responsibility for content and performance, assisting students to learn and practice the standards, and supporting learning through practical application of the standards. Examining Standards across Grade Levels The purpose of these guides is to help schools coordinate curriculum and instruction across grade levels. Standards are listed in side-by-side columns so that teachers can see how they can support, and are supported by, teaching at other grade levels. This process is especially helpful in relationship to promotion and retention policies and practices. California Content Standards For each grade level, these guides list the four academic content areas side-by-side: Language Arts, History/Social Science, Science, and Mathematics. The purpose is to assist in coordinating curriculum across disciplines. It is especially helpful to assist in examining student performance for promotion and retention practices.
