Implementation

On October 27, 140 administrators filled TCOE’s Elderwood Room to hear from experts and practitioners on the subject of Transitonal Kindergarten (TK) – the new statewide program created out of the Kindergarten Readiness Act. The act makes the first year of a two-year kindergarten education available to children born between September and December. It also establishes September 1 as the date by which students must be five years old in order to begin kindergarten.

The TK Summit was held as a forum for educators to share best practices, as well as strategies and resources for bridging Preschool Foundations with Kindergarten Common Core Standards. Sessions provided information on parent communication, teacher qualifications and selection, curriculum, standards and special education, as well as experiences from a current Transitional Kindergarten classroom.
