Verification Process for Special Settings (VPSS)


What is VPSS?

VPSS is an alternative subject matter verification process for middle and high school level teachers in special settings.

Eligibility

VPSS is designed for teachers who teach two or more core academic subjects in the following settings:
  • Secondary special education settings
  • Secondary Alternative programs (i.e., Community Day, Continuation, Opportunity Programs, Court/Community, and Public Charter)
  • Secondary Small Rural School Achievement (SRSA) Programs
  • Independent study
Professional Development Tiers
  • Tier I classes are for teachers with less than 10 upper division university/college semester units or less than 20 total semester units in the required subject.

  • Tier II classes are for teachers with more than 10 upper division university/college semester units or more than 20 total semester units or completion of Tier I in the required subject.
Completion Requirements
  • Tier I classes require 36 hours per content area and one lesson plan based CSTP 3.1.

  • Tier II classes require 36 hours per content area and one lesson plan based CSTP 3.1.
Fee and Payment

The fees for VPSS are $550 for each tier of each subject. Lunch and materials will be provided. VPSS can be paid by Title I, Staff Development or Title II funds. Please register online using the appropriate links listed below. Mail or deliver your check, money order or purchase order (payable to TCOE) to:

University units are available for an additional fee.
