Tulare County Office of Education

Veterans in Tulare County who missed completing high school due to military service in

World War II
Korean War
Vietnam War

and

any person interned in relocation camps during World War II

may be eligible to receive a high school diploma from the Tulare County Superintendent of Schools through the Operation Diploma program. Additionally, family members may submit an application to recognize a qualifying individual posthumously.

Qualifications for Veterans

Must have been enrolled in a Tulare County high school immediately preceding military service.
Failed to receive a diploma because of the interruption in education due to military service.
Must have been honorably discharged from U.S. military service.
Veterans who have received a GED may still apply for a diploma, if above qualifications are met.
Family members may apply for recognition of a veteran who is now deceased, provided the veteran met the above qualifications.

Qualifications for Interned Citizens

Must have been interned by order of the Federal Government during World War II.
Must have been enrolled in a Tulare County high school immediately preceding internment.
Failed to receive a diploma because of the interruption in education due to internment.
Interned citizens who have received a GED may still apply for a diploma, if above qualifications are met.
Family members may apply for recognition of a relative who is now deceased, provided the relative met the above qualifications.

There is no charge to participate in the Operation Diploma program.

Operation Diploma is an ongoing program operated by the Tulare County Office of Education. The first Operation Diploma ceremony will take place at the meeting of the Tulare County Board of Education on December 7, 2005. The deadline to apply to receive a high school diploma for the December 7 ceremony is November 11, 2005. Participation in the ceremony is optional. Additional ceremonies will take place throughout the year during regularly scheduled Board of Education meetings as applications are received and certified.
