The California Child Care Initiative Project (CCIP)

Purpose
The California Child Care Initiative Project builds child care supply, improves the quality of child care, retains child care providers and documents program accomplishments. The CCIP five stage model will:
  • Assess child care supply and demand.
  • Recruit individuals to become licensed family child care providers.
  • Train child care providers on child development and business practices to improve quality .
  • Provide technical assistance and on-going support to child care providers.
  • Document and report program accomplishments.

Background
Many Tulare County families are living in rural areas. They work at jobs that require non-traditional work hours.

The majority of licensed child care homes in Tulare County are in the urban areas and offer traditional hours of service. For the families living in the rural areas of the county, access to licensed child care is limited due to the shortage of providers in their area and the lack of transportation. Finding child care providers who offer non-traditional hours of service also limits their choices. There is a need for quality child care in rural areas for both traditional and non-traditional hour care.
