Child Care Recruitment & Training Project

A Project of the Tulare County Office of Education
Funded by First 5 Tulare County

The Child Care Recruitment & Training Project has three main objectives:
  • Recruit and train individuals residing in underserved communities to become licensed family child care providers.
  • Develop a family child care provider mentor program that will link experienced providers with newly licensed ones.
  • Provide health and safety training, nutrition and child development education to child care providers who are not required to be licensed.

Background:

Families who have children under the age of three and who need child care are most likely to choose either a licensed family child care home, or a friend or relative who is not required to be licensed. Only a small percentage of infants are cared for in licensed centers.

Because we know how important the early years are in the development of a young child, quality child care is so important. By providing training and guidance to both licensed homes and exempt child care providers, we hope to improve the quality of child care, thereby providing better outcomes for Tulare County's very young children.
