Special education student transportation is provided as a related service for students with an identified need. Students are transported from their home to school and back each day. Approximately 850 students attend 54 school sites throughout Tulare County. Of these students, approximately 160 are in wheelchairs and require special care. The 65 school buses, provided under a contract with Student Transportation of America (STA), travel more than 1,000,000 miles annually and cover a service area of 4,600 miles. Student safety and quality of service are the primary goals of the Tulare County Office of Education transportation system.
