Success Stories

Debra Debra suffers from COPD which requires her to do breathing treatments every 2-3 hours. Because of this condition, she did not feel she would be able to find an employer who would be willing to accommodate her condition. To stay active and productive, Debra volunteered her time doing things she enjoys, such as serving as a choir director and pianist for her church. Despite her reservations about being able to secure employment, on September 20, 2012, Debra made the brave decision to contact A Ticket to Success and make an attempt to return to work. Her job developer helped her to develop a professional resume and sent her job leads. Debra was told by her job developer that she had many valuable skills and, with persistence, she would find a job quickly. Encouraged and with a boost of confidence, Debra posted an ad on Craigslist, marketing herself as a property manager. On October 31, 2012, Debra was hired by a retirement community to do property management. Her employer had no problems accommodating her needed breathing treatments. Debra remains at her job today and is very happy to be working. She is very glad she made the decision to participate in Ticket to Work by contacting A Ticket to Success.

Debra shares her experience with her job developer Nai. "Ticket to Success has been the most helpful to me, in making sure that my check stubs are sent in to Social Security in a timely manner to avoid any over payments during my trial work period. Re-entering the work place can be scary and overwhelming. Thankfully, I was well prepared to enter the workplace again. For others that are not as well prepared or have been out of the work force for a long period of time, the resumes you create and the job leads that you send almost daily are a wonderful resource. The promptness in which you returned phone calls and emails was admirable.

I have received many compliments from my employer over the past 10 months, including things such as what an efficient and dedicated employee I am, that I am the best manager Royal Palms has ever had, and how grateful and lucky he is that he hired me before someone else could. I also received a $400 a month raise by my first quarterly review. I was scheduled to receive a raise at six months when my trial period ended, not at three.

I would highly recommend A Ticket to Success to anyone wishing to re-enter the work force."
