Hope ... the beginning of a new life

Ignacio, age 59 and primarily Spanish speaking, worked 14 years for a company when he had to quit and take work at another job after he suffered a back injury. He has always been active as a painter, maintenance worker, and machine operator.

He received a letter from us as part of an outreach effort to serve those in outlying areas. I met him in his small rural town for his first appointment. After I explained the Ticket To Work program to him and he assigned his ticket to us, he started shaking his head. I asked if he was O.K. and he stated that this program has given him hope. He will be active again and pursuing employment with our help and this will give him plenty of things to do. He was in tears telling me how his activity and state of mind was affected when he became disabled.

He thanked me as he left the office with a great smile on his face. The change in attitude will go a long way in securing employment in the future. I am confident Ignacio will work again soon and will be proud to be productive and able to contribute more to his family.
