Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE) Behavioral Health Services (BHS) improves the quality of living and learning of the children and families
of Tulare County by providing mental health and behavior services in the school, home, and community. We utilize an innovative, evidence-based approach and draw upon the strengths, diversity and resiliency of the families
we serve to remove barriers impeding the achievement of their goals.
BHS provides mental health treatment to students throughout Tulare County school districts who are identified as in need of mental health support and intervention in order
to access and benefit from special education. For students who have educationally-related mental health services as part of their Individual Education Plan (IEP), BHS works in a collaborative manner with students, families, and school personnel to provide
a behavior health assessment and individualized intervention. BHS works to ensure access to the quality of care available to children and families throughout Tulare County. BHS provides an extensive number of field-based services, operates an
outpatient psychiatry clinic in Visalia, and provides a comprehensive, integrated, and collaborative approach to mental health treatment to treat a variety of behavior challenges and mental health issues.
Services are tailored to each individual
child and family, and may include, but are not limited to:
- School-based individual and group therapy
- School-based rehabilitation services
- Crisis intervention services
- Case management
- Community-based group therapy
- Behavior intervention services (consultation)
- Functional behavior assessments (consultation)
- Mental health assessments
- Implementation of behavior intervention plans (support)
- Educator training and support
- Parenting skills training and support
- In-home individual/family therapy and rehabilitation services
- Substance abuse prevention
- Psychiatric evaluation and medication management
- Referrals and coordinated care with other agencies and community resources
If you are concerned about your child’s mental health and believe that additional support and services are necessary, please notify the School Psychologist or a member of your child’s IEP Team. All referrals to TCOE BHS are completed by the IEP Team.
