Freaky Friday Audition Instructions
Everyone must participate in all three disciplines involved in the audition (vocal, acting, and dance) to be considered for casting. The directors and audition panel fully understand that students have strengths and weaknesses and varying levels of experience and confidence in the three disciplines. Do not count yourself out because you consider yourself weaker in one or two of the disciplines. There are plenty of roles in every show that are not dance-heavy or don’t necessarily have a vocal solo. Just try your best and learn from the experience no matter what happens!
Vocal Audition Instructions:
Choose your own audition song, preferably NOT a song from Freaky Friday. Select 16 to 32 bars of music (30 to 60 seconds) of the song that you feel most confident about, that demonstrates your singing and acting abilities, and fits the style of the music in the show.
You must bring the piano sheet music (with the appropriate edits outlined above) with you to the audition for our accompanist. You are not allowed to perform with a pre-recorded backing track. If you need assistance with this task, our Music Director, Charlotte Garcia Da Rosa, is available via email at email@example.com.
Acting Audition Instructions:
You will be given the acting audition scene/sides when you arrive at the audition to review and prepare.
Dance Audition Instructions:
You will be taught the dance combination at the audition. Please wear or bring appropriate dancewear or athletic attire, ballet/jazz or athletic shoes, and secure your hair back off of your face.
There will be invitation-only callbacks for students that we wish to see more from. We will be distributing callback material following the dance audition day.
About the Show
When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
